Funk-fused “Fresh’n’ Nu” Sees Medy Lema Take Long Overdue Centre Stage Position

Dance, funk, Music News, New Music, New Release, R&B, Soul

When you’ve worked behind names like Stormzy, Lisa Stansfield and IAMDDB, carving yourself an identity is no easy feat – having lived in the shadow of so many greats – but RnB star Medy Lema has found no issue in doing just that with new single “Fresh ‘n’ Nu”.

Carrying over a plethora of on-stage experience, performing to crowds since he was three, Lema’s persistence and bold spirit is told through autobiographical lyrics and pounding funk bass beats.

“I was in a difficult period of my life a few years ago but it was with the help of a few friends and the will of rising up that brought me this far because I’m not a quitter. Most of my songs are autobiographical in a way.” Medy Lema

With this in mind, the Manchester-hailing genre-blender makes quick word from standing out from genre’s congested scene as the track bursts into a ripping guitar solo and funk jam to divert expectations and move feet; a sound as fresh and new as the title suggests.

Medy Lema is undoubtedly destined to take his unique brand of RnB, Soul, EDM and Funk to high places and beyond – whatever your musical preference, “Fresh ‘n’ Nu” is an undeniable hit and deserves to be heard.

Our Artist of the Month for August- The talented Vicky T

female singer, pop, Pop Music, R&B, Review, Singer-Songwriter, Soul, Uncategorized

It’s time to share our Artist of the Month for August where we highlight the best new talent we heard last month.

August was a month full of fierce competition and incredible releases in the industry but for the Pop Playlister team there was one standout artist.

Vicky T brought us her debut single ‘Lie’ on the 14th August, a soulful R&B single that instantly caught our attention.

The London based singer-songwriter is talented beyond her years, an emotive songstress and vivid storyteller, Vicky T is one of the most exciting R&B stars emerging on to the scene.

We caught up with the young talent to find out a little more about her artist debut and what’s next for the rising star.

You first started entering Music at just 15 with your Instagram covers, at the time did you think it would kick start a career or were they just for fun?

“Many people didn’t know I could actually sing so posting my first cover for me was terrifying because I was a very shy girl growing up.

I honestly had no idea what would come out of posting covers- I did it because I love singing, I love music and I wanted and still want to inspire people my age to post and share with the world what they love to do.

Most importantly an amazing person came into my life who pushed me to post consistently which then resulted into being able to work in a studio and live my dream.”

What do you think your 15 year old self would say if she could see you now having released your first single ‘Lie’?

“My 15 year old self wouldn’t believe what my 17 year old self is doing right now. Working with an incredible producer who’s produced for incredible artists blows my mind.

Having a manager who’s practically my big brother is just a dream so I am so grateful and thankful. My hard work and dedication has definitely played a big part in getting to where I am now, we still have a long way to go!”

What do you want people to think/feel when they listen to your music?

‘I want people to feel inspired just how I did/do when I listened to other artists music. I want people to know they’re not alone when they hear a song they can relate to and I want people to dream big. Anyone can achieve if you believe.’

Bursting at the seams with talent and potential, there is so much more to come from this young artist.

First openly gay Indian artist Pragya Pallavi releases single from her forthcoming LGBTQIA+ album

pop

Being the first openly gay Indian artist to release an LGBTQIA+ album, Pragya Pallavi is a name you should get to know this year. Taken from her forthcoming album ‘Queerism’, singer songwriter and musical artist Pragya has just released her single Lingering Wine – a sensual, jazzy homage to same-sex love that has an almost cabaret-esque theatrical grandness.

The video of the track is just as groundbreaking as the single itself. Taking us on a story of a couple in love that will melt your heart, the dynamics of same-sex relationships and body positivity is represented in abundance through the striking visuals and black and white montages – a lyrical and visual combination that radiates the feeling of being confident in your own skin.

Featuring collaborations with National Award-winning sound engineer K.J.Singh, and Indian DJ AND “Mother of Electronica” Ma Faiza, Pragya’s forthcoming album promises a fusion of multiple genres including EDM, RnB, hip-hop, jazz, alt-rock and of course, a fresh input of traditional Indian music.

With the album’s lyrical base of the societal and cultural struggles of queer people and the celebration of the decriminalisation of LGBTQIA+ identities in India, Pragya’s debut album Queerism is set to be something special.

‘Ready And Waiting’ by Becca B (review)

pop, Urban

Becca B has created quite a sound with her new single ‘Ready and Waiting’. The song is addictive and as good as R’n’B gets. The singer from Nottinhamshire is definitely about to embark upon an exciting ride in the music industry. With an interlude from rapper MceBisi the song is smooth and chilled out and the perfect tune to settle down and loosen up to. After having concentrated more on rock/pop in the past, it seems that Becca has made the right decision in pursuing an R’n’B sound. It matches her voice perfectly.

Scarlet Baxter Releases Sultry Single: ‘Stuck’

Uncategorized

stuck cover-1

If you haven’t already heard her name, then meet Scarlet Baxter – the fierce female solo artist with a killer voice, whose name is on everyone’s lips. After the imminent success of her previous single ‘Backsliding’, which currently has over 45,000 YouTube views, Scarlet is hot on the heels to release her eagerly anticipated second single; ‘Stuck’. Consisting of a smooth, soothing ballad that allows her to convey dynamic emotions, ‘Stuck’ also allows Scarlet to show off her powerful vocal diversity.

The exciting new track ‘Stuck’ is due for release on the 15th December. You can listen to it here: [soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/172981456″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

She’s already attracted the attention of some of the top people in the music industry, like the Super Stylers who remixed her previous single, and has made a big name for herself on both her local London scene, and national media.

Drawing on the chilled out RnB influences from her childhood, Scarlet and her co-writers Dominic Ireland, John McLaughlin, Judd Mahoney & Natalie DeLucia have written an amorous track, about being ‘Stuck’ in love with someone who you don’t necessarily want to be with. All the songs are instantly relatable and likable, with aspects of Britpop with a prurient undertone.

“There’s a new girl in town and she’s slowly making her way around the room with introductions, probably with a guitarist beside her.” - Maximum Pop
