Rie Fu’s ‘Mirror’ Makes For An Enchanting Listen

Folk, pop

Yeti Love want to take you down their ‘Lonely Road’ with new single

Folk

Single impact date set for June 15th

Named thanks to enduring love/fear of the vaunted mythical creature, Yeti Love is the musical moniker of songwriters Peter Hamilton and Dave Sears – a clever/unique folk duo who view the genre as this generation’s punk music, able to articulate about issues and press all the right buttons in all the wrong places.

Hamilton is also influenced by his own ancestry, being half Spanish and, at a young age, falling in love with the folk traditions of home town Galicia. Having started out as a drummer before building his own musical skills and horizons, his love of rhythm was informed by this specific branch of celtic roots music. Married to Sears’ intricate, multi-instrumental approach, the result is a hybrid sound unlike any other act on the circuit today.

New single, ‘Lonely Road’, is set for release on June 15th, and you can hear it here.

The pair have labelled their unique combination as ‘alt-rogue-folk-rock’, which is as fitting a description as any. Based in South London, they have been playing together since 2012 and ‘Lonely Road’ is the latest fruit of their labours.

Sandy Kilpatrick single ‘Your Love is a Weapon’ to be taken from album ‘The Shaman’s Call’

Acoustic, Folk

An acoustic-folk singer-songwriter, Sandy Kilpatrick is now Portugal based having been born and raised in Scotland. His new album, ‘The Shaman’s Call’, is the latest stunning release in a career that has grown organically over time, with his sound echoing great songwriters as wide ranging as David Bowie and Damien Rice, while retaining his own unique take on the genre.

Those developing years have been spent surrounded by talents who have made it to the mainstream, such as close friend and New Order guitarist Phil Cunningham. Now Sandy Kilpatrick aims to follow in their footsteps.

Having lived in various parts of the UK before moving to Portugal to be with his family, Sandy Kilpatrick’s particular brand of accessible folk music has a well-travelled feel to it. Inspired by a wide ranging exploration of all of life’s experience as seen through Sandy Kilpatrick’s eyes as a writer, Sandy’s last album ‘Redemption Road’ was notable enough to gain the support of key BBC tastemakers Guy Garvey and Mark Radcliffe. One track was even used by footballer Cristiano Ronaldo on his ‘Best Bits of 2013’ video.

‘The Shaman’s Call’ marks further progression for Sandy Kilpatrick as an artist, guided out of the gate by new single ‘Your Love Is a Weapon’, a song which focuses on the intimacy and solitude of the writer at work: https://soundcloud.com/sandykilpatrick/your-love-is-a-weapon

Like this track, the album as a whole is designed to feel raw, and not hidden behind the smoke and mirrors of big production. The lyrics are intimate and thoughtful, hitting many highs, lows and moments of heartfelt poignancy – many of which listeners will immediately relate to.

Derek Ryan releases brand new ‘100 Numbers’ Single!

Uncategorized

Image

Derek Ryan’s career has already been an unquestionable success. He signed to WarnerMusic at the age of 17 with his band D-Side and went on to make a multi-platinum selling record with ‘Real World’. He has also been nominated for several Meteor Awards in Ireland and has had global success with a number 1 single in Japan.

He has already gained 3 top 10 hits in the UK, and is now looking to further establish himself  with the release of his new single ‘100 Numbers’ following the UK release of his new album Country Soul.

He commands a very loyal following of fans who have known and loved him since his D-Side days! The ‘Official Derek Ryan Fanclub’ Facebook is constantly buzzing with praise and love for Derek, along with a vibrant Twitter feed which keeps his fans hooked on his new gigs and music.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/derekryanmusic

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/derekryanfanclubofficial

The track itself is a clear nod to his Irish country and folk music roots but also has an unmistakeable pop tone too with a very hooky melody and a catchy rhythm that is hard to shake!

Listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_48VtJ4sjg

‘100 Numbers’ was, like most of Ryan’s music, self-penned. The lyrics speak of being surrounded by people once he’d moved to London to continue his career, but still suffering from homesickness and missing those he is closest to. It was inspired by a tough time in his life when he was living in a bedsit in the city and desperately wanted to get back to his home in Ireland and continue making the music which he loves and has grown up with.

These feelings came despite the ‘100 Numbers’ in his phone, and there was no one who could help him shake his thoughts of home. The song is therefore a look into Derek’s own journey out of loneliness and back to his roots both musically and personally.

Musically ‘100 Numbers’ is quite layered with a number of different instruments being used throughout to give it a warmth characteristic of Derek’s music. In terms of comparison, the Westlife pop style is tempting but it has a more contemporary Mumford and Sons, Laura Marling pop folk feel to it whilst retaining a traditional flavour.

Malik & Pettite new gig dates

[Stream their EP here – https://soundcloud.com/malik-27]

Following the release of their debut 4- track self-titled EP, talented young upstarts Malik & Pettite have announced two London showcase gigs in the coming weeks. The first on November 20th at ‘The Bedford’ in South London, followed by December 6th at the legendary 100 Club in Soho.Image

The duo have only just released their first EP and are definitely on the rise. Their four track EP, ‘Malik & Pettite’, is a tight and fun little number.

‘Victoria’ is the stand out track for me with brilliant hints of a Housemartins sound that has otherwise disappeared from the mainstream.

Similarly ‘Only You’ and ‘No More Love’ have something of the late 80s / 90s guitar folk sound to them, maybe a touch of Billy Bragg in there as well. Check out the video for ‘No More Love’, set predominantly on an airplane wing! http://youtu.be/PgL8WY3IMBg

If you’re around the venues then I would recommend you give them a go, even if you’re not, get down there! I wouldn’t be surprised to see them following the paths set by Jake Bugg et al in the near future.

Malik & Pettite Debut EP Track List:

1.    No More Love

2.    Only You

3.    Victoria

4.    Rise Up
