Celeste receives Oscar nomination for track ‘Hear My Voice’

Music News, News, Singer-Songwriter, Soul, UK Music

As reported in Music News Celeste received an Oscar Nomination for Best Original Song for “Hear My Voice” which she co-wrote with composer Daniel Pemberton for the Netflix film The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Celeste and Pemberton said:
“What an amazing journey a song can have…
From being in lockdown, stuck at home, yet somehow still managing to write, collaborate and record over phone calls, text messages and video chats to create something from nothing that is now nominated for an Oscar is just, well, mind-blowing!”

‘Hear My Voice’ is a song written in the spirit of protest and we wrote this song with the intention to in-still hope and belief into those who feel they aren’t heard, to know that one day they will be. We are so lucky to have had such a powerful film from Aaron Sorkin to inspire the song and great collaborators in each other to complete it. To the Academy: a huge thank you we are both truly honoured.”

Celeste’s debut album Not Your Muse entered the UK Official Artist Albums Chart at No 1. It features twelve songs, including nine brand new tracks alongside acclaimed singles “Strange,” “A Little Love” and “Stop This Flame.” The deluxe edition contains an additional ten tracks, including “Hear My Voice.”

Congratulations to the soulful star!

It’s great to see prominent women supporting and championing each other publicly.

The full list of performers for this year’s ceremony – which will be held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles but will not feature any in-person attendance due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic – was announced by the Recording Academy on Sunday (07.03.21), and also includes the likes of Billie Eilish, Cardi B, and Megan Thee Stallion.

Billie Eilish’s highly anticipated documentary lives up to expectation

female singer, Music News, News, pop, Pop Music

As reported on BBC News Billie Eilish’s documentary The World’s A Little Blurry finally landed.

The documentary centres on Billie as a 17-year-old, a year into which she packs what would fill two lifetimes for most people.

She never stops: writing, touring, singing, practising, working, working, working on her album with Finneas.

They tour Europe (with mum as a constant chaperone, which leads to some memorable scenes). Billie gets injured, she mentions having Tourette’s syndrome; she falls in love.

She tells us how she once dreamt truly, madly, deeply about Justin Bieber, and now guess what? He’s facetiming her!

Billie certainly impresses, with BBC’s Will Gompertz celebrating the candid nature of the documentary.

There is a foreboding sense in this film of we’ve seen all this before, it is Act One of a three-act story.

You can’t help but think of the recently released Britney Spears documentary, she was a talented teenager who had a lot of parental input but whose life and mental health suffered under the pressure of fame and expectation.

Turning a person into a product works for just about everybody except for the artist. It is the epitome of a Faustian pact, with an important exception: it is rarely the teenage prodigy who does the deal.

Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry is a refreshingly candid, intelligent documentary, if a little a long, which leaves you wondering if a life of relentless celebrity and trying to please everybody but yourself is actually a good plan.

You wonder exactly whose dream is coming true?

I found it sad rather than uplifting, but the music is exceptional and so is the woman making it.

French electronic music duo Daft Punk have called it quits after nearly 30 years.

Releasing a video titled “Epilogue” (an excerpt from their wordless 2006 film “Electroma”) to announce their retirement on Monday, the group’s longtime publicist confirms the split. No reason for the split was announced.

Formed in 1993, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo have long hidden their identities behind robot helmets while performing. In their final, eight-minute farewell video, the duo wander the desert wearing their familiar robot helmets and leather jackets. One of the group removes his jacket to reveal an energy pack, which is pressed by the other member. The first member walks away and then explodes before the shot cuts to a sunset and Daft Punk’s “Touch” plays.

The duo’s debut 1997 album Homework was an international success with dance hits “Around The World” and “Da Funk”. By 2001, Daft Punk had donned their signature robot helmets, releasing more electronic dance, hits including “One More Time” and “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”.

Daft Punk’s last album was 2013’s Random Access Memories, which featured the hit track “Get Lucky” and won a Grammy for Best Album in 2014. Since then, the group have worked with the Weeknd on two songs on his Starboy album, in addition to “I Feel It Coming”.
