Pa Salieu has been crowned the winner of BBC Music Sound of 2021.

The 23-year-old rapper was selected by a panel of 160 industry experts and alumni artists including Billie Eilish, Stormzy, Jorja Smith, Wolf Alice, AJ Tracey, YUNGBLUD, Foals, and Charli XCX.

Pa Salieu was born in Slough and spent his formative years in The Gambia before moving to Coventry at the age of 8. His new home later became the inspiration behind his breakout track Frontline and his debut mixtape Send Them To Coventry, which he dropped late in 2020 to widespread acclaim.

He began his journey with BBC Music back in the summer of 2019, with his track Dem A Lie premiering on BBC Radio 1Xtra for Target Embargo. He has since recorded freestyles for Toddla T and Tiffany Calver on 1Xtra, and joined the likes of Headie One, Ghetts and Burna Boy on the bill for 1Xtra Live 2020.

Pa Salieu says: “I was just really happy to even be included on the list alongside some amazing artists, a few of who I know personally. They’re all crazy talented, so to be the winner of something like this so early in my journey just feels mad.”

London based singer-songwriter, Elyss Daya, has revealed her stunning new single ‘Limerence’ that is nothing short of beautiful.

Born to Filipino parents, but raised in London, Elyss grew up with a rich tapestry of musical influence and experience.

The young singer songwriter has already captured the attention of BBC introducing, Slanted Press and Radio Wigwam to name a few.

Since her 2017 debut release, ‘Ignition’, Elyss Daya has been establishing herself as an emotive and moving songwriter.

An artist with stories to share beyond just being a musician, this young songstress is someone we are truly excited about.

Following on from the success of her hit single ‘We Could Stay’, Elyss Daya has released a subtly powerful and smoothly moving track ‘Limerence’. Delicate and atmospheric, the single is the definition of easy listening.

Elyss comments-

 “It’s a song that I wrote when I was 19, and it is probably the longest production I’ve ever worked on.”

‘Limerance’ is designed to tell the tale of each stage of infatuation, from the uncertain, the unspoken and the fragility of emotion.

“Sometimes, it’s not enough to want someone for the way you think they are.” 

Picking up support already from BBC Introducing, the track is a stand out single for Elyss, and sets her apart as an artist to watch for 2020.

Rapper Dave and THE David Attenborough collaborating on a wildlife special

Sir David Attenborough and rapper Dave are set collaborate on a new BBC wildlife special.

Entitled Planet Earth: A Celebration, the musical special will also feature input from acclaimed film composer Hans Zimmer.

The programme, which will include sequences from the previous Attenborough-fronted shows Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II, is “designed to lift viewers’ spirits during a time of international uncertainty,” according to the BBC.

Attenborough has recorded new voiceover narration for the special, while Zimmer (along with a number of other composers) has reworked the original score and added a series of new compositions.

The special will see Dave perform on a grand piano while the BBC Concert Orchestra takes on the string section of the score.

Exciting news and a collaboration we truly never thought would happen.

Anna Madsen returns with ‘Whisper’ and new tour dates

The New England Music award nominee is back with her second studio album ‘Whisper’ coupled with announcing brand new tour dates throughout April and May.

As well as her songwriter of the year nomination at the New England awards, Madsen has enjoyed recognition since appearing on Britain ITV’s ‘Christmas Carol’ leading to support from BBC Radio 2 and appearing on Spotify’s hot list UK’s playlist.

Musically, Anna has drawn comparisons to Lana Del Ray. Some calling her a ‘Del Ray, Kate Bush and Enya’ hybrid. Some praise of course but essentially it’s her unique background that sets her apart.

Growing up in Utah, it was her Mormon heritage that has shaped the singer-songwriter’s light, classic romanticism picking up her love of music in the church.

‘Whisper’ is her second full length album, released which follows 2016’s Efforescence and is a classic soundtrack of her own distinctive absorbing story-telling.

A long with this is she has announced her European tour, taking in three venues in London as well as St. Helens, Portadawe in Wales and Spain.
